Walter Sweeney M.A., M.Phil.(Cantab), Cert.Ed

TFA Council Member Walter Sweeney was Conservative Member of Parliament for the Vale of Glamorgan from 1992 to 1997.
In 1997 he moved a "Victims of Crime" Private Member's Bill in the House of Commons "to make it less likely that a person who purports to act in self-defence or in defence of property against a criminal will himself end up being sued or prosecuted for his actions".
Born on St George's Day, 1949, he was educated at Lawrence Sheriff School, Rugby; Darwin College, Cambridge; Hull University and Aix-Marseille University. He was a Councillor on Bedfordshire County Council from, 1981 to 1989; Parliamentary Candidate for Stretford, Manchester in 1983; a member of Glamorgan Community Health Council from 1991 to 1992; Member of Parliament for the Vale of Glamorgan from 1992 to 1997.  He was a member of the House of Commons Home Affairs Committee.  Married, with two daughters, he lives in North Cave, in the East Riding of Yorkshire, where he practices as a solicitor.
