Tony Hollick writes: Caspar Weinberger endeared himself to me during the Falklands conflict with the Argentine Junta.  We were very concerned that one of our two aircraft carriers might be sunk, depriving us of vital air cover.  Caspar Weinberger "stepped up to the plate" and announced that, if that happened, he would immediately "lend" Britain a fully-equipped NIMITZ-Class Super Carrier - "More firepower than both sides in World War 2".  He was primarily responsible for pushing through America's rearmament after years of decline.  The Western World owes a great deal to Caspar Weinberger.
