When are
we going
to ban
the
‘Banners’?
Everything
is being
banned
except
murder!

The trouble
with a word
like
'per-son' as
in person
hole covers,
Personchester
etc., is
that it is
blatantly
sexist. In
order to
avoid gender
stereotyping,
we should
use words like
per-thing
and talk
about the hu-per-thing
race, wo-per-things,
chair-per-things
and so on.
I do feel
better for
getting that
one off my
chest or any
other bit of
me.

I spent
our
winter,
their
summer,
in New
Zealand.
One
weekend
I was in
Napier
in the
North
Island
where
they
were
having
an Art
Deco
celebration.
There
was a
picnic
in the
park,
dancing
in the
streets,
parades
of
vintage
cars,
air
displays
and a
visit by
the new
luxury
liner
'Queen
Victoria'
on her
maiden
voyage.
In the
middle
of this
was a
group of
tourists
looking
down at
the
ground,
while
the
guide
said "We
used to
call
these
manhole
covers,
but
because
of
political
correctness
we now
have to
call
them
person
covers."
When I
got
back,
Freedom
Today
was
waiting
for me.
I read
John and
Laura
Midgley's
column
on
political
correctness
where
they say
"We have
lost
count of
the
number
of times
people
have
contacted
us to
say that
if there
was a
political
party
prepared
to
oppose
political
correctness
they
would
vote for
it"
In
section
9 of the
UK
Independence
Party
manifesto
for the
2005
general
election
under
"Regional
and
Local
Government"
are the
words
"Slash
political
correct
appointments".
